Macquarie Island Field Guide now live
MICF is delighted to announce that the Macquarie Island Field Guide is live!
The Macquarie Island Field Guide is the first definitive, digital field guide for Macquarie Island. It includes all of the birds and seals that breed on the island, all of the vascular plants, introduced pests and weeds, a selection of unique or dominant insects and seaweeds, common whales/dolphins and historical information for extinct and eradicated vertebrates. It features detailed information of approximately 130 species in total.
The Field Guide is suitable for a range of users including researchers, tourists, expeditioners, educators and students. It helps users identify and learn about the island’s unique flora and fauna, provides a tool to assist in monitoring, and provides a point of connection to the island’s treasured natural values. It is available as a downloadable App and also online.
The Macquarie Island Field Guide represents a significant body of work for the Foundation and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to it’s development. In particular, we would like to acknowledge the efforts of our Project Manager, Dr Helena Baird, whose has expertly driven this project from the start.
We also acknowledge the generous support of the Purryburry Trust.
We hope you enjoy it!
